Handle your new tree by the root ball only. Do not roll or drag trees. When planting trees that have a wire basket you must leave the basket on. These steps will help to ensure that the root ball stays solid.
PLANT IT HIGH AND IT WON’T DIE
PLANT IT LOW AND IT WON’T GROW
Clay soils retain water and do not drain well. We recommend that trees and shrubs should be planted above the grade of the land. It is easier to give the plant a little water than it is to dry out Missouri clay. Please see the diagram below.
All plants require water, especially newly planted items. Your trees should receive water one time per week. Water for 1-2 minutes depending on the trees size. This should be done with your hose on ¾ pressure. Water shrubs 2-3 times per week lightly for 15-20 seconds each. Trees and shrubs that are over watered show the same signs of stress that under watered trees show. If your tree looks sick please check the moisture level of the planting area by removing some mulch and digging down besides the root ball. Use root stimulator only in the first year 3 x fertilize with 12-12-12 after first year in spring.
